We are honored to present to you our annual water quality report for the calendar year of 2022. We at “UBT” have a staff of valued and dedicated employees who work around the clock to ensure that we have the highest quality drinking water possible for our customers and citizens.
There are certain Federal and State guidelines that we must adhere to in order run a successful water filtration system and getting this report out to our customers annually is one of them. Although this is just a summary of our yearly activities, we can assure you that we are working around the clock to deliver the best product possible. If you have any questions or concerns about anything in this report please feel free to contact Amir Swanson (Co-Plant Manager) or John Tate(Co-Plant Manager) at 334-724-2125 for further explanations or information you may need.
General Information
The Utilities Board of Tuskegee operates a 4 million gallon per day (MGD) water filtration plant right here in Macon County that is manned by trained operators. To operate our plant, our operators have to be certified through the State of Alabama and pass all requirements according to the Alabama Department of Environment Management (ADEM).
UBT’s water treatment plant adds certain approved chemicals to improve quality and safety to our consumers. Chlorine is added to the water to kill bacteria. Lime is added to produce a desirable water quality by raising the pH level to reduce corrosion and acidic conditions. Fluoride is added to assist in the prevention of cavities in teeth. Aluminum sulfate and a cationic polymer are used as coagulant aids, while ortho-phosphate is added to help control corrosion in the distribution system. We are pleased to report that our drinking water is safe and meets ALL current federal and state requirements. We want our valued customers to be informed about their water utility and the service we provide. If you would like to learn more, feel free to attend our regularly scheduled board meetings on the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:00 PM. Meetings are held at the Utilities Board of the City of Tuskegee Municipal Complex located at 101 Fonville Street, Tuskegee, AL.
Our “raw water” source is the Tallapoosa River. We have a river pumping station that sits directly on the river approximately 1 mile from our treatment facility in the Town of Franklin. We have 4 elevated water storage towers throughout the city that hold a combined storage of 2.35 million gallons of water. The water towers play an essential role in the quality and quantity of water we are able to produce.
We are required to test and monitor your drinking water on a routine basis. We test and sample your drinking water daily in our in house lab located at the water treatment plant. We are also required to collect samples throughout the city every month and send them to an independent lab for testing. ADEM requires us to stick to a strict sampling schedule. Simply missing any of our scheduled sample submissions can result in a state violation. In accordance with state guidelines, certain items are tested daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or on an annual basis. The results listed in this report are an overview of sampling data for 2022.
